February 2021 Art Tutorial: Gel Plate Printing

Katherine Stein hosted a Tutorial session "Gel Plate Printing" on Saturday, February 27, at 1PM.  Katherine demonstrated how she uses different media and different papers to make beautiful gel prints.  She got great results using acrylics, watercolor, and alcohol inks.  Katherine also showed how to make a pseudo-Washi tape using drug store supplies.  Guildies created along at home.  Below are some screenshots from the Tutorial.

CMMAG has such a talented pool of artists in the membership who are planning to share skills and information in 2021 in the Guild's new Tutorial sessions.  These Tutorials will are free to all CMMAG members. Anyone interested in attending one of these events, email CMMAG for details.

Members-Only Tutorial: Gel Plate Play

Since the pandemic has kept CMMAG from getting together for sessions and classes, the Board has arranged for several Tutorial for members throughout 2021.  The next Zoom-based session will be from 1:00 to 3:00 PM on Saturday, February 27.

Katherine Stein will lead CMMAG members in an interactive tutorial of how to use different paints and other media to float color onto a variety of different substrates using a gel plate.

Katherine recommends you bring a sense of adventure as well as a sense of humor, any sized gel plate, a brayer, paints and papers.  She will demonstrate using different media on different types of papers.  Members will play along as she shows her skills.

Any member who doesn't have a gel plate and brayer can still play along!  CMMAG has a supply and is willing to share.  Interested in joining CMMAG or in this Tutorial, email CMMAG for details.

February 2021 Business Meeting

CMMAG continues to meet every month despite the pandemic; members are meeting virtually on Zoom.  The monthly business meeting is held on the second Thursday of the month.  The details for the February 11, 2021, meeting are included below.

Creativity Exercise

Lisa Yerby led the members in a creativity exercise based on Torrance Test of Creativity.  Lisa had everyone draw each of four shapes in the corners of the pages, and then add to these drawings to create something unique.  The members then shared their drawings.  A couple of screenshots were captured--see below.

Members-Only Tutorials

Marcia Streithorst discussed the January Tutorial in January, “paper from around the house,” where members made journals. See more details here.

Katherine Stein will host a Tutorial on February 27, 2021, from 1 to 3PM to play with gel plates.  She will demonstrate using different media (acrylics, watercolor, alcohol inks) with different papers.  The Guild has five gel plates (and will provide a brayer also) to loan to any member who wishes to attend the tutorial but does not have a gel plate.  Contact a board member for details.
