March 2021 Members-Only Tutorial: Galaxy Acrylic Ink Paintings

On Saturday, March 20, 2021, CMMAG members participated in a Zoom session to learn to create Galaxy paintings using acrylic inks. It was promised to be fun, messy and a little like paint pouring, and it did not disappoint.

So many of the members have a stockpile of acrylic inks but never seem to use them. this was a great way to use up some of those older supplies.  Here are some screen captures of the process:

The results will make great backgrounds for cards or paintings.  They also look great covered in resin to make the stars really pop.  Here are some screen grabs of what others were able to create.

Members-Only Tutorial: Galaxy Ink Painting

On Saturday, March 20, 2021, from 12:00-2:00 PM, CMMAG members can participate in an interactive, online (Zoom) tutorial session to make Galaxy paintings using acrylic inks. These look great on their own or covered in resin for more depth and shine.  You can also use them in your art journal or for collage, to make cards, or as a background for a painting.

This is a fun, flowy not fussy process similar to paint pouring, so it will be a bit messy.  It’s a great way to use up some of those acrylic inks we have in our stash but never seem to use. Interested in joining CMMAG or in this Tutorial, email CMMAG for details.

Members-Only Tutorial: Gel Plate Play

Since the pandemic has kept CMMAG from getting together for sessions and classes, the Board has arranged for several Tutorial for members throughout 2021.  The next Zoom-based session will be from 1:00 to 3:00 PM on Saturday, February 27.

Katherine Stein will lead CMMAG members in an interactive tutorial of how to use different paints and other media to float color onto a variety of different substrates using a gel plate.

Katherine recommends you bring a sense of adventure as well as a sense of humor, any sized gel plate, a brayer, paints and papers.  She will demonstrate using different media on different types of papers.  Members will play along as she shows her skills.

Any member who doesn't have a gel plate and brayer can still play along!  CMMAG has a supply and is willing to share.  Interested in joining CMMAG or in this Tutorial, email CMMAG for details.

January 2021 Art Tutorial: Paper from around the House

One of the perks of being a CMMAG member is taking classes and attending workshops to learn new skills and techniques from outside artists and teachers every year.  Unfortunately, all planned workshops were cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic.  CMMAG has such a talented pool of artists in the membership who can share what they know so in 2021, members will be presenting free, members-only online sessions to share skills and information.

Marcia Streithorst hosted the first Tutorial session called “paper from around the house” on Sunday, January 24, at 1PM.  Marcia showed members how to quickly and easily prepare an art journal from different papers (book, magazine, junk mail, etc) everyone has in her stash.  Marcia also demonstrated how to reinforce the cover and quickly bind the papers.
